An English version of Jakob Sande's Christmas carol "Det lyser i stille grender":

Det lyser i stille grender
Av tindrande ljos i kveld,
Og tusene barnehender
Mot himmelen ljosa held.

Og glade med song dei helsar
Sin broder i himmelhall,
Som kom og vart heimsens Frelsar
Som barn i ein vesal stall.

Der låg han med høy til pute
Og gret på si ringe seng,
Men englane song der ute
På Betlehems aude eng.

Der song dei for fyrste gongen
Ved natt over Davids by
Den evige himmelsongen
Som alltid er ung og ny.

In hamlets serene and soundless,
On this blessed night of nights,
Children in numbers boundless
Lift up a thousand lights.

Upward to heaven gazing
They sing a song of joy
Their brother and savior praising
Who once was a baby boy.

Once in a stable lowly
In still Bethlehem he lay,
Serenaded by angels holy
While he cried in his bed of hay.

And there, the first time ascending
From David’s town, was sung
The heavenly song unending
That always is new and young.
