Do you have a text that needs to be translated from a Scandinavian language - Norwegian, Danish, or Swedish - to English?  You've come to the right place.

Who am I?

I'm an American author and translator living in Oslo, Norway.

I have a Ph.D. in English, have taught literature and writing, have published a dozen books on a variety of topics (among them an English grammar for university students), and have translated several books.

What kinds of translation have I done?

I've translated books on art and dance, as well as Human Visas: A Report from the Front Lines of Europe's Integration Crisis by Hege Storhaug and Human Rights Service. 

I've also translated business and financial documents as well as articles about politics, history, theology, art, dance, music, literature, sports, and current events.

I translate regularly for The Norseman, an English-language journal published in Oslo by the Norse Federation (Nordmanns-Forbundet).

Note that in some instances, the English version is not a direct translation but, rather, the product of additional research and revision.

The Christmas carol is not intended to be a literal rendering but an English imitation that preserves the rhyme scheme and metrical pattern of the original.

What can I do for you?

• I can translate from Norwegian, Danish, or Swedish into either British or American English.
   
• I can give you a thoroughly serious, no-nonsense, businesslike translation - or, alternatively, one that gets your message across in a light, entertaining manner. Or anything in between.
   
• I can give you a text that's aimed at a strictly academic audience, at the educated common reader, at a narrow specialist readership, or at the multitudes. Your call.
   
• If the source text is poorly written, insufficiently researched, and/or in need of extensive editing and revision, I can do what needs to be done to produce a translation that is none of these.
   
• If somebody else has done a translation for you that isn't there yet and needs to be converted into coherent, idiomatic English ("språkvasking"), I can do that, too.
   
• I won't accept any assignment without being certain that I can complete a first-rate job by the appointed deadline.
   
• If you send me a technical document in a field whose jargon I don't feel sufficiently acquainted with, I'll refer you to a translator who specializes in that area.
